Do you like to get a workout while putting things in their proper place? In that case, we have a position just right for you! Because Rose Haven receives a considerable amount of contributions of clothing and personal care products, we are looking for someone who can assist us with heavy lifting, organizing, and sorting donations to prepare for distribution to our guests! This job requires a variety of physical abilities, including the ability to squat, bend, lift, climb, and push and pull. The volunteers helping out will be expected to spend most of their shifts on their feet. The distribution of materials depends on the efforts of volunteers who support donations, and we require your aid to be successful in this endeavor. We are able to be flexible with your schedule as long as it comes within our workday, which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Rose Haven serves women, children, and marginalized genders experiencing poverty and homelessness in Portland. Come be a part of the Radical Hospitality that we offer!

Rose Haven serves many guests who speak Mandarin and Cantonese and we are looking for volunteer translators to help us better serve these guests where there is a language barrier. This is a new volunteer role, so we have some flexibility around the hours and days. Ideally we could have some scheduled days to add to our guest calendar and let folks know when translators will be onsite to assist. Rose Haven is a day shelter and community center in NW Portland, serving women, children, and marginalized genders experiencing homelessness and poverty. We offer meals, showers, emergency supplies, advocacy visits, activities laundry, and a free clothing shop. Our service hours are 9 am - 12 pm, Monday through Friday, at 1740 NW Glisan St. in Portland, and we provide parking passes to volunteers. You will need to complete a volunteer orientation and background check.

Runners are one of Rose Haven's greatest volunteer needs! Volunteers can either run supplies for our hospitality desk or work with kitchen staff to run food to our dining area. As a supply runner, volunteers work with a staff member at the front door, to provide requested supplies to our guests, generally hygiene products, clothing, mail, and outdoor supplies. Here you will act as a personal shopper for our guests, taking their order and then going inside to collect the supplies. After you have collected the items they are looking for, you will bring it to the person waiting outside. Food runners help to bridge the gap between the kitchen and our guests by bringing delicious food out to our dining area. Last year we moved into an amazing new space, allowing us to expand our services and meaning we need and appreciate every volunteer!

The Shower Assistant aids in administering one of the most vital services for Rose Haven's guests: a private, long shower. Monday through Friday, visitors have access to showers from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. You and a member of the staff will work together to keep the showers and other facilities clean for our guests. There are three private showers and three vanities for guests to use. You will provide guests with freshly cleaned towels, washcloths, bath mats, shampoo, conditioner, and other shower supplies at guests' request. After each use, the showers are to be disinfected by spraying the surfaces and then wiping the touch sites with a medical-grade disinfectant that has been allowed to dry. Only female-identified volunteers may volunteer for this position. The wellness desk is where guests can get hygiene supplies and beauty products. Guests can also sign up for Rose Haven's wellness classes and activities. This program allows guests to connect over something other than the challenging circumstances that bring them to the shelter. These activities help empower our guests by giving them opportunities to learn, be creative, heal, and socialize. We are following COVID-19 mask safety protocols inside Rose Haven. We ask volunteers to wear gloves when working in the shower area.
