Mission Statement

Our mission is to strengthen public education in Hillsborough County through advocacy, investment of resources and programs that empower every student to achieve both academic and personal success.

Description

Hillsborough Education Foundation is dedicated to deepening our impact on students and teachers to ensure every student receives a high-quality education. We are particularly focused on creating equity and leveling the playing field in our highest needs schools. Together with our partners, we are investing in a prosperous future for our community.

Our work centers around making an impact, engaging our community to invest in education and ensuring our teachers have the necessary resources to provide all students with an equal opportunity to graduate and achieve success. By strengthening public education, we strive to build a better community to positively impact the lives of individual teachers and students, regardless of background or economic status.

We pride ourselves in collaborating with our supporters to ensure your gifts are used in the most impactful way possible. For every dollar our partners invest, 92 cents is used directly for programs supporting teachers and students. It is due in part to our dedication to be responsible stewards of donors’ contributions that we have earned a 4 Star Charity rating from Charity Navigator.

As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, the Foundation provides Hillsborough County Public Schools with funding that is typically more flexible than restricted tax dollars. The funding and extra resources for the students, teachers, and schools helps to cover the gap that exists between what school budgets can cover, and what is needed to ensure the academic success of our students.

Very .organized procedures; staff is very professional and welcoming. I have volunteered with this organization since 2014 and it is a very rewarding experience.

This opportunity was short-term and the work had to be completed by a deadline. The expectations were clearly laid out, and communication was professional. There was a glitch in the computer system, causing volunteers to have to re-enter all the scoring that was previously completed. However, the staff handled the situation swiftly and professionally. I would volunteer with them again.

It was great reading the different essays from the students and their life goals.

I volunteered with the Hillsborough Education Foundation grading high school scholarship essays. The person in charge is very accessible via email, the requirements of how many to grade and the criteria to measure the essays against are very realistic and you can work at your own pace from anywhere with Internet access. I'd volunteer here again.

They are really easy to work with and gets in touch with you quickly. The woman in charge gave very specific and easy to understand instructions. It also seemed like she was available to help if you needed it.

I currently volunteer regularly every Monday and Thursday at the Hillsborough Education Foundation's (HEF) Teaching Tools Store. The store's goal is to provide free resources to teachers so that they in turn can supply their disadvantaged students with the materials they need for school. The experience I've had working along other volunteers with assisting teachers in finding and obtaining the resources they need to provide the best quality education for their students has been amazing. They are always in need of volunteers and greatly appreciate anyone willing to help. The first day I volunteered they had free food and drinks that were specifically for volunteers as a thanks for what we do! The staff has been very kind as well as other fellow volunteers, and the teachers I help while I'm there are so kind and humble. If you're interested in helping out our educators in a day and age when education is at its peak of importance, I say you should sign up for HEF's available programs!

They don't seem to really need volunteers. I received a very unenthusiastic response to my interest.

Such a wonderful organization; they provide a large number of resources for college-bound students. Would recommend and also provide a helping hand again if the opportunity arises.
