Mission Statement

To provide healthy meals, safe shelter and critical services that affirm the dignity of men and women who are marginalized and homeless and empower them to gain the stability they need to transition into permanent housing.

Description

Franciscan Outreach is a leading nonprofit provider of homeless services in Chicago, including the largest shelter on the west side of Chicago and the second-largest shelter in the city overall. Our primary objective is to ensure the health and safety of guests by providing for their immediate basic needs of emergency shelter and food. While creating a sense of community, we support each guest with the resources to promote overall wellness and help facilitate a successful transition out of homelessness. Every day, we provide healthy meals to the hungry, a bed for those who need shelter, and critical resources for those who need guidance and support. Our evidence-based, trauma-informed programming includes Emergency Shelter, Case Management, Rapid Rehousing, Day Program, and Medical Respite Care. In 2023 we supported over 2,700 guests, served over 260,000 meals, provided nearly 100,000 nights of shelter, and helped nearly 200 individuals move into permanent housing. Volunteering through Franciscan Outreach offers a sense of fulfillment and a way to give back to the community. Our volunteers truly make a difference in everything they do, and we can help as many people as possible we do with their help. Thank you for considering volunteering with Franciscan Outreach! It has something that I can't even descrive, a feeling of satisfaction to give some one a warm meal and see them smile. Very nice people, I enjoy it so much I will do it every week.
