Are you looking for a volunteer position that will challenge you and add meaning to your life? Kokua is a Thurston County non-profit serving adults with disabilities. We are looking for additional members for our Board of Directors. We are looking for board members who want to use their skills and passions to promote good health, support growth of independence and community inclusion for adults with disabilities. We have room for a wide range of skills and interests - banking or bookkeeping, event planning, networking, fundraising, information technology, human resources, and board development. Most of all, we are looking for people who have a heart connection with the issues affecting individuals with disabilities. Would you be that person? Position Description: Kokua's Board of Directors includes individuals who are dedicated to the organization’s mission to "Provide individuals with disabilities the support needed to lead full and meaningful lives". Serving on Kokua's Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about human rights and community inclusion. Board members are expected to read and understand Kokua’s financial statements and to otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. Board members are expected to attend one board meetings per month. Board meetings are typically on the first Tuesday night of the month from 7-9pm, though this schedule may differ during certain times of the year. Board members are expected to read any prepared board materials or email/Slack correspondence in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions. Board members are expected to serve on one or more committees of the board and to actively participate in committee work. Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for Kokua to achieve its mission. Fundraising is a key component to growing programs and should be a priority for each Board member. Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help solicit potential fundraising partners/sponsors, as well as directly invest in Kokua’s work by making a personal contribution each year. Board members are expected to responsibly represent Kokua to their respective communities and to advocate for Kokua’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate. Board terms last for three years with a year-to-year extension after that. Thank you for your commitment to an inclusive community!

Hummingbird Studio is a free, inclusive community art program for individuals of all ages and abilities. Art studio volunteers help with set-up, clean-up, and any individual support another artist may need. Also, volunteers help to foster a safe, welcoming, and creative environment for other artists. We are located in Friendship Hall at the YWCA in Olympia, WA. We have sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-11:30am, 12:30-2pm, and 2:30-4pm. www.hummingbirdstudio.org

Description
Kokua Services, located in Thurston County, Washington, is a non-profit organization serving individuals with disabilities since 1990. We provide state-contracted residential supported living services to 45 individuals in their own homes. Paid Direct Service Professional caregivers assist individuals with daily tasks of living allowing them to live as independently as possible in their community. We also provide state-contracted respite and community guide services to individuals with disabilities. These services provide fun outings to help get individuals out into the community and to provide supports to work on personal goals. Our two community programs focus on social inclusion. Hummingbird studio is an art program in downtown Olympia open to individuals of ALL abilities, and LEAD (Literacy & Education for Adults with Disabilities) is a tutor/mentor program that matches college students with individuals with disabilities for one-on-one tutoring.
