Mission Statement

The mission of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Colorado is to build communities of recovery and hope by educating, supporting, and advoating for individuals affected by mental illness and their families.

Description

NAMI Colorado was founded in 1981 as a grassroots response to the first waves of de-institutionalization that shifted care for seriously mentally ill men and women and children from hospitals to the community. Family members came together to help each other cope with the devastating effects of mental illness and to insure that their loved ones receive the services they need for recovery. The importance of these goals is as critical today as it was at our founding. Today NAMI Colorado supports a network of 18 affiliates and support groups around the state and has approximately 2,500 members. We are the Colorado state affiliate of the national NAMI organization.
