Mission Statement

Franklin County Children Services provides services for abused, neglected, and troubled children and their families. Social workers and other professionals provide protection and care to children through in-home counseling and out of home placement when needed. Many children under the care of Children Services depend on volunteers and mentors to guide them through difficult times. Volunteers and mentors share time with their matched youth at least twice a month and make a 6-month commitment to that child. Our 4 Volunteer Program opportunities are designed to enrich the lives of those who give the gift of time and sharing, as well as enrich the life of child that will last forever.

Description

Franklin County Children Services provides 4 volunteer opportunities for adults to be matched with children and youth involved with the agency. The programs include the Friendship, College-Bound Mentoring program, and the Africentric Simba and Malaika programs. Each program matches an adult one on one with a child or youth. Requirements are: 1. Volunteers should be age 18 or older; 2. Have a valid driver's license and car insurance; 3. Complete the short application process and training; 4. Make a 6-month commitment to a child.

I know the process of helping children in crisis. My grandson was part of this process. I know first hand there are many children and families who need someone to direct their path to a positive one. It is not an easy task. So I know first hand and would like to be involve in helping to change someone direction in life.
