Animals offer companionship and connection in a way that humans do not. If you have ever been present when an animal visits a nursing home or hospital, you will see many people (staff, patients, and visitors) are happy to see the dog and really enjoy your visit. Hospice of Holland is in need of a few volunteers with dogs available for pet visits in the Grand Rapids area. Minimally, our pet visitors must be Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certified, or have a comparable certification. For more information on CGC, please go to: http://www.akc.org/dog-owners/training/canine-good-citizen/training-testing/ Please contact us today if you would like to know more about this program and the requirements for volunteering with your pet.

Our Hospice patients are typically within their last six months of life and are unable to get to a salon - and a haircut is a much appreciated service and helps the patient feel better about themselves. Our hairstylist volunteers are able to train with a self-study orientation at your own pace. Commitment requirements are very minimal - do one haircut per month, one per week, or as many as you’d like - you set your schedule and location preferences (Holland, Grand Rapids, Saugatuck, etc). If you are interested in helping to serve our patients and community, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
