RESULTS advocates believe that everyone deserves a chance to thrive in their community. No one should worry about being hungry or losing the safety of their home. But too many people in the U.S. and around the world face this reality each day. To build a better future, we must take action to protect people's rights to health, nutrition, housing, and financial stability. You can make a difference as a RESULTS advocate. Every year, RESULTS volunteers secure billions of dollars for global health and education. We ensure that U.S. households with low incomes can access vital nutrition support. We improve tax policies for people with low incomes, putting money back in their pockets. And we call for new and innovative solutions to the affordable housing crisis. What You’ll Do as a new RESULTS Advocate In our New Advocate Training & Action Program, you will join one training and action meeting each month. During the meeting, you will learn one advocacy skill and take one advocacy action to practice that skill and support a solution to poverty. RESULTS New Member Engagement staff lead these meetings. Our staff specialize in grassroots advocacy and community organizing. We are eager to support you to grow as an advocate. Through the New Advocate Training & Action Program, you will reach the following goals: Learn to speak powerfully about solutions to poverty in the U.S . including: Protecting and expanding SNAP and U.S. nutrition assistance programs. Improving tax policies that help low-income households, such as the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit. Creating new solutions for renters who are struggling to afford housing. Learn to speak powerfully about global poverty solutions , including: U.S. support for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria and the need for U.S. partnership worldwide to ensure access to healthcare. Securing U.S. funding for programs that improve global maternal and child health and nutrition and strengthenhealth systems globally. Communicate effectively and confidently with each of your members of Congress.Share your values and your concerns about poverty. Ask them to support effective solutions. Write and publish media in your local newspaper . This media will educate and influence Congress and your local community. Use your community connections, and build new ones, to show a strong, united force for positive change. After you finish the New Advocate Training & Action Program, you will be ready to t ake your advocacy to the next level .We'll connect you with other advocates in your state. As part of your local RESULTS chapter, you will have opportunities to join meetings with your members of Congress and continue to make a difference through advocacy. Description

For over 40 years, RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund have been shining light on critical, effective solutions to poverty. By combining the powerful voices of civic advocates with research and oversight of U.S. anti-poverty efforts at home and abroad, RESULTS has been changing government priorities and people’s lives.

RESULTS has been very helpful for me to learn new skills and gain confidence with advocacy work. I have been able to meet with all my national representatives within the last two years I have been volunteering. Our local group is small but has provided me with opportunities to be involved at the level I am comfortable with.

The mission of RESULTS, ending poverty through advocacy at the national and global level, is effective and life-saving. The staff is excellent in supporting volunteers; providing them with accurate information and smart, nationally coordinated strategies to impact our national policy. The other volunteers are inspiring people who have hearts of gold, deep commitment to social justice and never give up. They are exactly the kind of folks I want to spend time with. As a non-partisan organization, it reaches to all political positions with the powerful message that we can end poverty, hunger and disease if we have the political will to do so. I resonate strongly to the hopeful message, the demonstrated effectiveness and successes of RESULTS and to the leadership, staff and volunteers who "walk their talk" more than any other group I know.

RESULTS is hands-down one of the most amazing non-profits someone can volunteer with. Their top priority is and always will be with helping people overcome poverty. I have learned so much about poverty, government, and advocating with them. I could never have imagined that I would learn as much as I have or be as successful at advocating as I have. The RESULTS staff have equipped me with all the tools I need to succeed and be an effective advocate. In my time here I have gotten congressmen to sign on to bills and resolutions, and even had meetings with them in person! If you want to feel like you are making a difference in the lives of others, and you want to use your position as a citizen in a democratic society to change the world then this is the organization for you!

RESULTS is a well-organized and friendly organization. They work on ending global and US poverty by focusing on equal access to health care, education and economic opportunity through political advocacy. Also, they are very flexible, which has been awesome because between work and my family I only have a few hours I can dedicate a month. They have lots of training and support for volunteers, and most of the other volunteers I have worked with are very nice and friendly, so it's been a fun experience. This year we are working on a bill that got introduce in the senate to end preventable child and maternal death by 2035 and also getting our reps in congress to join a caucus for getting basic education to the 59 million elementary school kids that don't have access to schools. Last year we successfully worked on getting more vaccines to the world's poorest areas. It's nice to be part of a group that's actually making a difference.

RESULTS does an excellent job of teaching me how to effectively meet with members of Congress to advocate for ending poverty. Steering U.S. foreign aid to the people who need it most is not an easy task in Washington. But with the support of the RESULTS team, I keep gaining the necessary persistence to be a voice for the voiceless.
