Mission Statement
CHCP's mission is to educate, promote and preserve the history and culture of the Chinese and Chinese Americans in the United States, particularly in the Santa Clara County.
Description
Founded in 1988, CHCP is a non-profit organization that sponsors community programming and oversees the Chinese American Historical Museum (aka Ng Shing Gung Museum) at History Park, History San Jose. Museum admission and private tours are free and open to the public.
CHCP also spearheads outreach and educational projects for the community such as the Heritage Education Link Progam (HELP) Grants for the promotion of diversity in the schools; large-scale events and guides about Chinese Culture, Traditions, and Contributions; school tours and field trips to History Park San Jose; a traveling 14-panel exhibit depicting the history and contributions of the Chinese in Santa Clara Valley; acknowledgement of WWII veterans and celebrations of Chinese American trailblazers; an award-winning "Uncovering Asian Experiences" film to raise awareness about anti-Asian hate and racism; a campaign to preserve historic Sierra Summit Tunnels; and support for the Resolution of Apology from City of San Jose to Chinese immigrants and their descendants for past acts of injustice and discrimination.
CHCP is led by our dedicated Officers, Directors, Advisors and Members. CHCP also sponsors a leadership program for students to serve as Ambassadors at our outreach events and Museum. We hope you will join us -- "History is for living. Learning is for life".
