The Red Cross Disaster Team Needs You! We respond to a disaster every 8 minutes with the majority of those being home fires. Due to the unprecedented fire season we are experiencing, we have an urgent need for volunteers to respond to disasters. Provide comfort and relief to your local community when a disaster strikes. Our disaster action team members are second responders to a disaster site. They provide comfort, food, shelter, and other resources that have been affected. Key Responsibilities: Respond to disaster site in a timely manner Aid individuals or families that are affected Provide resources and human compassion Qualifications: Compassion Availability to be "on-call" for four shifts a month. If you are called, a call is about 2 hours. Be able to respond to call within a timely manner. Ready to sign up? Be the face of the Red Cross and support our administrative tasks! With 92% of our workforce being volunteers, we are a volunteer-led organization. Key Responsibilities Provide general information to staff, volunteers, clients, and the public about the American Red Cross and its programs Greet visitors entering the building who need direction and provide support or assistance Provide support in answering phones, provide information, take messages, or transfer calls Possible other tasks Support the overall administrative functions of the Operations department and its staff Help process vendor payments, manage document retention and vendor contracts and relationships Coordinate work orders for fleet and facilities maintenance and repairs Perform or assist with facility emergency drills Copy, file, and maintain paper or electronic documents Compile, sort and verify the accuracy of data before it is entered Time Commitment - One 4 hour shift a week. Are you a friendly, well-organized and enthusiastic person who can represent the Red Cross to our blood donors? Help the Red Cross save lives by using your customer service skills. If you have a little free time and are a true "people person," the Red Cross has a great volunteer position for you. Volunteer blood donor ambassadors ensure that blood donors have a pleasant and fulfilling experience, from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. During a blood drive, whether you’re greeting donors, answering questions or thanking them for their donation, your courtesy and professionalism will create a favorable impression that encourages ongoing donor support. The American Red Cross has a vibrant Youth Club program so that young people can get involved in our humanitarian mission while they're still in school. Here in Northern Nevada, we are looking for a Youth Club Coordinator who has excellent leadership abilities, loves working with youth, and wants to make a difference in our community. The time commitment is roughly two hours per month, and during that time you'll get to do the following: Meet with Red Cross Club officers and Club Advisor/Sponsor at beginning of school year. Be available to attend Club meetings as necessary or requested by student leaders, or arrange for attendance by other chapter leadership. Assist the Red Cross Club officers with Club registration/renewal process on Volunteer Connection, including ensuring the Club Constitution is approved and submitted. Approve volunteer hours of Red Cross Club members in Volunteer Connection. Provide Club with guidance and resources to be successful. Integrate Club members into the activities of the local Red Cross unit. Provide Club members with volunteer opportunities through multiple lines of service. Create and maintain an environment where youth feel empowered to lead and mobilize peers in community service projects addressing local and global issues. Provide recognition opportunities for youth and young adult volunteers throughout the year. Provide Club access and/or assistance with placing an order to the national branded merchandise vendor for any promotional product needs (i.e. t-shirts, water bottles) If that sounds interesting to you, and you have some extra time to spare, please reach out!
