Disaster Action Team Member Respond to local disaster scenes to meet the needs of those affected by disasters such as providing shelter and food and other Red Cross services. Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are local, personal disasters like home fires. They may not make the news, but we know they are just as devastating to the families affected. Trained and available, Disaster Action Team volunteers are ready to respond to these emergencies, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. From offering a shoulder to cry on, to meeting any immediate needs for shelter or supplies, to connecting people with long term recovery services, our volunteers ensure that families don’t have to face tough times alone. Disaster Action Team volunteers help local families cope with emergencies. Home fires and other disasters can occur any time, any place. As a Disaster Action Team volunteer, you’ll provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the process of recovery. After your initial training, your shifts will include responding to emergencies within 2 hours, night or day, rain or shine, either on the scene or coordinating remotely to provide immediate compassion and care. With experience and further training you can take on leadership and response coordination roles to have a wider impact. At the same time, you’ll be developing skills that you may choose to apply to larger-scale disaster response efforts with the Red Cross. Are you a licensed healthcare professional? The Red Cross needs you to help provide healthcare to residents displaced by disasters. Due to an active wildfire season, the Red Cross needs thousands of volunteers to care for people when disasters strike. What is this role? We need volunteers who can work in emergency shelters to help assess people's health and provide hands-on care in alignment with their professional medical licensure. We also need volunteers who can provide care as delegated by a licensed nurse in shelters; this could include assisting with activities of daily living, personal assistance services, providing health education, and helping to replace medications, durable medical equipment, or consumable medical supplies. Daily observation and general health screening among shelter residents may also be required. We have both associate and supervisory-level opportunities available. This role is for you if you are an RN, LPN, LVN, APRN, NP, EMT, paramedic, MD/DO, or PA with an active, current, and unencumbered license. Ancillary roles are available locally for Certified Nursing Assistants, Certified Home Health Aides, student nurses, and medical students. RNs supervise all clinical tasks. Why is the role important? Perform or coordinate the maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the American Red Cross building in Camarillo, CA. This is an in-person volunteer role at our office building. Key responsibilities: Complete maintenance workorders for our Camarillo building. Conduct regular inspections of the building to identify repair or maintenance needs as they arise. Perform maintenance and repair work, such as painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry depending on identified skill level and training. Help out source bigger projects. Serve as a local point of contact for maintenance service contractors to ensure their work is completed timely and economically. Assist with facility emergency drills. Work with regional Operations staff to identify opportunities for more efficient management of American Red Cross facilities. Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with established policies and procedures to assure compliance with standard operating procedures, Safety Quality Identity Potency Purity (SQUIPP), regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations. Disaster Preparedness Presenters Become a Preparedness instructor and help community members prepare for home fires and other emergencies. We teach age appropriate curriculum, and are looking for volunteers comfortable presenting to all age groups! Past teaching or public speaking experience is a plus--however, this is a great opportunity to grow and develop your skills.
