Mission Statement

Medicare Rights Center is the largest independent source of Medicare information in the united states. Founded in 1989, our mission is to help older people and people with disabilities get good, affordable health care.

Description

Medicare Rights Center is dedicated to assuring that people with Medicare get the health care they need. We do in several ways:

Client Services provides direct services to people with Medicare. We offer information and advice on our consumer hotlines, provide help with Medicare appeals, and assist professionals so that they can assist their clients. We make a difference in individuals' lives.

Policy/Advocacy works to make Medicare better for everyone. We meet with members of congress, write policy papers, collaborate with other advocacy groups, and work with the press to ensure that Medicare is in the forefront of public policy.

Education maintains two websites, including www.medicarerights.org , creates educational materials, including our electronic newsletters, conducts trainings and webinars in an effort to ensure that people with Medicare understand their benefits and their rights.

The goal of all that we do is to help people with Medicare have access to all the services to which they are entitled. Our volunteers are our partners in this valuable work.

I have volunteered once a week with the Medicare Rights Center for the past 5 years, answering hotline calls from people who need information or have problems with their Medicare plan. The other volunteers, who are mostly older, and the full time staff, who are mostly younger, are all very friendly and helpful. Good training is provided for the volunteers, and there are always staff members available to help with the more difficult questions that callers ask about their Medicare coverage. It is a good place to volunteer, and I highly recommend volunteering there.
