AmeriCorps Senior Companions (Must be 55+) offer one-on-one services to those who have difficulty completing everyday tasks. They can assist with: grocery shopping and paying bills transportation to medical appointments alerting doctors and family members to potential health problems, and Companionship in the home Senior Companions can also provide short periods of relief to primary caregivers. Because of this program, thousands of residents can live with dignity in their own homes. For their service, Senior Companions receive a $4.00 an hour (tax-free) stipend and reimbursement for: transportation some meals, and accident and liability insurance during service. *Must be a Boston resident*

Become an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Volunteer and serve with the Dana Farber (must be 55+) Patients and families often find themselves overwhelmed, lost, and unaware of the many resources available to them at Dana-Farber and in the Boston area. It can be difficult to navigate a complex system while balancing the physical and emotional tolls of illness. Friendly support, guidance, and access to helpful information can help easy anxiety and frustrations; it also can help patients and families feel more in control of their experience and less overwhelmed. The Ambassador Program seeks to provide patients, family members, visitors, and staff with friendly and helpful volunteers who offer directions within YCCC, throughout the Dana-Farber campus, escort patients to appointments while helping answer questions along the way; provide one-on-one support to help a patient or family member someone who might otherwise feel lost and overwhelmed; provide information about Dana-Farber programs and resources. Goal: Patients and family members will feel welcomed, supported, aware of available resources, and assisted in finding their way. Patients and families will experience decreased anxiety, greater knowledge of available resources, and increased satisfaction of their overall care. Activities: - Being visible in all patient entrances - Escorting patients and families to appointments by foot - Providing comfort, support, and empathy - Maintaining confidentiality at all times - Providing directions within YCCC, throughout the DFCI campus, and to BWH and CHB - Understanding patient flow to help patients and families understand the nature of their appointment day - Providing information as needed/requested about Dana-Farber programs - Directing patients and families to the appropriate program or resource for additional information - Attending routine Ambassador meetings - Depending on timing of shift, distributing lunches or art supplies to patients in infusion areas Training and Education: 1. Complete Volunteer Services Orientation 2. Shadow Ambassador Volunteer 3. Attend quarterly volunteer meetings (remote) 4. Work closely with Volunteer Services Staff to triage issues as they come up 5. Cross-train in other roles as needed including lunch cart and art cart 6. Attend one in-service training per year (remote) Commitment: One 3-hour shift per week for one year. Requirements: - Occupational health clearance including COVID-19 vaccination and booster - Background check - Volunteers must be able to be on their feet for the three-hour shift - Volunteers must be able to transport patients in wheelchairs and push a lunch cart (40+ pounds) To Qualify: Complete and pass a CORI Check 55 +Years or older We offer reimbursement for some out-of-pocket expenses, ongoing training and support, access to events in the City of Boston, and an invitation to our annual volunteer recognition event. Must be 55+ Boston Outdoor Preschool Network Service Position Nature-based Early Education Mission: The mission of Boston Outdoor Preschool Network (BOPN) is to meet the developmental needs of the whole child while initiating them into a lifelong relationship with the natural world. We are committed to expanding access to nature-based early childhood education. What We Do: BOPN is a nonprofit organization focused on nature-based early education. We bring families together in community and give children a joyfully muddy childhood under the loving guidance of dedicated teachers. Our programs combine early childhood and environmental education. Our goals are to promote children’s physical and mental health, encourage environmental stewardship, and to develop habits of mind such as curiosity, initiative, persistence, creativity, problem-solving, and responsibility. BOPN runs toddler and preschool programs in Boston, Milton, Malden, Sudbury, and Sherborn. We are committed to expanding access to nature-based early education through our equity programs, including our public school partnerships and by opening Boston’s first free nature preschool at the Franklin Park Zoo through Universal PreK. Position Description: AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers choose how, where, and when they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week. You may choose to serve at our programs at the Arnold Arboretum and/or the Franklin Park Zoo. Your volunteer service at BOPN will be designed to tap into your unique skills and interests! Responsibilities: -Nurture the spirit and curiosity of each child while building community. -Assist the Lead Teachers to ensure the health and safety of the children. -Assist the Lead Teachers to develop and implement engaging nature-based early childhood experiences that connect children with one another and to nature. -Explore varied terrain, make music and art, and learn about local flora and fauna. -Gracefully communicate with parents, caregivers, and the general public. -Attend an orientation and occasional professional development events related to nature-based early education -Complete state-required background checks -Related duties as assigned Qualifications: -Strong interest in nature-based early childhood education -Engaging and easily able to communicate with children, families, and teachers -Embrace a wide variety of weather conditions as unique and interesting, part of the ebb and flow of the natural rhythm and seasonal changes -Able to walk across varied terrain
