Mission Statement
Family Promise Montco PA's mission is to provide opportunities for families in our diverse community to achieve self-sufficiency by offering community-based programs designed to bridge homelessness and independence. These programs shall include homelessness prevention, temporary shelter, guidance in life skills and assistance in locating appropriate housing opportunities, thus enabling families at risk to remain in or return to independent living.
Description
Since 1982, Family Promise Montco (formerly Inter-Faith Housing Alliance) has provided food, housing and supportive services to families in crisis in Montgomery County. Family Promise provides programs that are designed to provide families with the tools they need to become financially stable and self-sufficient - and thus lift families out of poverty and break the cycle of homelessness. Our community food pantry in Abington serves on average 100 residents per month. In 2013, over 1,100 requests for food were filled. Family Promise operates an emergency shelter program for families experiencing homelessness and provides safe, affordable rental apartments in Hope Gardens, the transitional housing program. The demand for our services is growing, particularly as families with children are increasingly the largest sector of the homeless population. Volunteers are a vital part of the success of our programs.
