Meal Sponsor for Caring Dads

The Caring Dads Program has a goal of helping fathers improve their relationships with their children and ending controlling, abusive, and neglectful behavior. The program is a 17-week support group that will offer men opportunities to connect with other fathers and learn about themselves and their parenting through group discussions, exercises, and homework. The program will allow fathers to develop skills to cope with frustrating situations in healthy ways, understand how different fathering strategies and choices can effect children, increase their awareness of controlling, abusive, and neglectful attitudes and behaviors, and learn strategies to strengthen relationships with their children. Waypoint seeks volunteers to help with providing meals for this support group (meal size is a group of 10 for our current Cohort). One member cannot have pork, but there are no other dietary restrictions. Classes are on Wednesdays until December 4th at 5:30, so meals are requested to be delivered by 5:15.

Train to Be A Domestic Violence Victim Advocate

Each year, Waypoint serves nearly 2,000 victims/survivors of domestic violence with support and advocacy. Waypoint is in need of volunteer victim advocates to assist with answering the 24/7 Resource & Support Line, supporting victims in criminal and civil court proceedings, and providing emergency advocacy at area hospitals for victims of domestic violence. Additional support options are available, depending on interest and skill level. Volunteers are required to complete a free, 20 hour online training.

KidsPoint Mentor

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY: A KidsPoint Mentor is a caring, responsible adult who serves as a trusted friend and role model to students at KidsPoint’s Before and After School Care sites. Mentors will encourage the development of important academic and life skills and support positive decision making with the youth they work with. Under the direction of the School Age Kids Director and on-site teachers, KidsPoint Mentors are responsible for assisting School Age Teachers with various tasks to ensure children can gain the essential skills vital to reaching their full potential. KidsPoint Child Care programs (managed by Waypoint) serve over 500 children daily through three Learning Center & Preschools, eleven before/after school sites, and multiple Summer Day Camps. Providing a warm, welcoming environment to children ages 6 weeks through 12 years-old, KidsPoint instills a love of learning through exploration-driven skill development. TIME COMMITMENT: Part-time with flexible hours between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. School year commitments are required with at least 2 hours each week. Quarterly mentor meetings will also be held and attendance is required. KidsPoint follows the Cedar Rapids School District in regards to cancelations, early dismissals, and no school days. PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Support Teachers and Assistant Teachers with scheduled activities Work with children to provide homework support Serve as a positive adult role model for the children Maintain a regular volunteer schedule at assigned site Respect the confidentiality of the students, staff, and families in the program Maintain regular contact with Volunteer Coordinator and School Age Kids Director Attend quarterly mentor meetings QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years-old Must pass a criminal background check and complete fingerprint documentation Must complete online Universal Precautions training and review Permissive Reporting training manual Excellent communication skills Tolerance and openness to different world views and sensitivity to other cultures and languages Experience with children is preferred, but not required WHAT YOU WILL GAIN: Opportunity to serve and share from one’s own life experience Learn from youths’ experiences that may differ from your own Develop/grow critical leadership skills Satisfaction of working with children during formative years of development Exposure to diverse cultures and backgrounds

KidsPoint Classroom Aide

Volunteer classroom aids are caring, enthusiastic individuals who assist with various activities in the classrooms. You will be helping with educational activities, arts-n-crafts, physical fitness, etc. Opportunities are available at all three KidsPoint Learning Center & Preschool locations. Volunteers must be able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule, but the number of hours required are flexible. Volunteers must be at least 18-years-old and pass a background check. Previous child care experience is preferred, but not required.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIM SERVICES PROGRAM

Waypoint’s Domestic Violence Victim Services Program provides support services to help victims and their families cope with the trauma of controlling, hurtful intimate partners. Waypoint's Domestic Violence Victim Services supports the following counties: Benton, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jones, and Linn.

SURVIVORS' PROGRAM

Waypoint's Survivors’ Program supports and advocates for individuals who have lost a family member or friend through homicide or vehicular homicide, or are victims of violent felony crimes. The Survivors' Program serves Benton, Des Moines, Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Poweshiek, Tama, Van Buren and Washington Counties.

KIDSPOINT: CHILD CARE SERVICES

Waypoint's child care program, KidsPoint, is built upon over 30 years of experience designed to offer high-quality early education to children from all backgrounds. KidsPoint is composed of two Learning Center and Preschools, before/after school programming, and Summer Day Camp.
