Mission Statement
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description
The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in England by William Booth, and his ministry as been spreading throughout the world ever since. The Salvation Army arrived in Salem, OR in 1886. For over 125 years we have been feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and helping the disenfranchised, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with shelter, food, and other basic needs. The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center opened in the Fall of 1999.
Making all this run requires the help of hundreds of volunteers. Whether you volunteer once for a special event, or on an ongoing basis, we need people with willing hearts and cheerful attitudes to serve the Salem-Keizer community.
