Web Application Support Internship/Remote About RLC Rescuing Leftover Cuisine (RLC) is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to redistributing excess food from businesses to nonprofits serving people experiencing food insecurity. We work alongside our dedicated network of food rescuers and partner with organizations of all sizes and sectors, to repurpose surplus ranging from as little as 5 pounds to as much as 500+ pallets. Our mission is to reduce food waste, promote sustainability, and enhance food security. Since RLC was founded in 2013, we’ve rescued over 17 million pounds of food, prevented 37M+ pounds of emissions, and provided 13M+ meals to communities in need. The Position As a Web Application Support Intern at Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, you'll be integral to supporting the ongoing development, maintenance, and quality of our custom-built Ruby on Rails web application. Note: This role does not involve software development or coding tasks. This role provides a comprehensive experience in web development processes, with a focus on quality assurance, user experience, and product improvement. You'll collaborate closely with both our internal tech team and external consulting group to contribute to the enhancement of our web application, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and user satisfaction. Responsibilities: Perform QA Testing: Conduct manual QA testing of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes on our web application. Documentation: Create technical documentation for APIs, new features, and Salesforce integrations. Knowledge Sharing: Develop tutorials or workshops based on your learnings, which can be shared with the internal team and/or external users. Competitor Analysis: Investigate how similar platforms handle challenges that our web app is addressing, and report findings to the team. Salesforce Integration Testing: Conduct tests to ensure Salesforce integrations are functioning as expected. User Feedback Gathering: Collect and analyze feedback from internal and external users to inform development priorities. Bug Reporting and Tracking: Identify, document, and track software defects using our bug tracking system. Trello Board Management: Assist in keeping our development tasks organized on Trello. Tech Team Collaboration: Participate in weekly tech meetings to collaborate with internal team members and our tech lead. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to initiatives aimed at streamlining and improving development and QA processes. Qualifications: Enrolled in a degree program related to Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Systems, UX/UI Design, Business Administration, or a related field. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment. An eagerness to learn, contribute, and adapt in a fast-paced setting. Solid understanding of web applications, software testing concepts, and integration testing is a plus. Basic knowledge of Trello and Salesforce is a plus. This internship offers an opportunity to gain real-world experience in web development support, working closely with a dedicated and hardworking team. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the success of our web application, touching the lives of our rescuers, partners, and supporters. This is a part-time, unpaid internship, although interns will be reimbursed for travel if local to an operational RLC branch and actively complete food rescue pickups. Interns are expected to work 20 hours per week, the start date is in January 2025 with an end date in May 2025. Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit. Who We Are Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a 501(c)3 non-profit that redistributes excess food to people experiencing food insecurity. What We Do We partner with licensed food vendors (restaurants, bakeries, etc) and businesses who order catering (offices, production companies, etc.) who know they will have excess, wholesome cuisine and link their food donations to a human service agency within their local community. Our dedicated team of Lead Rescuers collect that excess food on a set schedule (pickups can be once a week, daily, or anywhere in between) and deliver it to one of RLC's partner human service agencies to help feed our neighbors who can benefit from a good meal! Who We Need YOU!! No minimum time commitment is required - you may sign up to volunteer sporadically or on a recurring basis. Documentation for proof of volunteering is available upon request. RLC is currently seeking passionate and committed leaders who are willing to take on the role of Lead Rescuer and lead food rescue events. Pick up food donations and deliver them to a human service agency, where the donations will then be distributed to the homeless and food insecure community. Each event is an hour or less.
