SoCal Parrot is a 501(c)3 non-profit which provides rescue, care, and rehabilitation for southern California's wild parrots. When a parrot is injured or orphaned, they are given care at our sanctuary in Jamul. We rescue birds from many areas throughout Southern CA, and we rely on volunteers to pick them up from the rescue point and transport them back to our facility. Many of our rescues come from Los Angeles and Orange County. We rely on transport volunteers to get them from these places down to our rescue facility in San Diego. Currently, we need several volunteers who are willing to pick up the rescue(s) and drive them further south. This role would include pickup from as far north as Anaheim and as far south as San Clemente, with a drop-off location in Mission Viejo OR Oceanside. Rescues are not planned, so this role is ideal for someone who has open availability. A working vehicle, driver's license, and willingness to be on the road are required. We provide all training and paperwork.

The injured parrots we rescue come from Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego; we need reliable transport for these birds to safely arrive back to our facility in Jamul. Rescue calls come in at all times of day, all days of the week. Baby season (late Spring through Summer) is our busiest time for rescues, but the "off" season has proven to be quite busy this year! We are currently seeking San Diego-based volunteers who would be willing to pick up an injured or orphaned parrot (from another volunteer or rescue facility) and deliver it to another volunteer further south. SoCal Parrot will provide you with all of the training and paperwork you'll need to be successful in this role. We do require you to have a reliable vehicle, flexible schedule, and strong ability to communicate. ** PLEASE NOTE: This role requires availability and willingness to drive! Rescue coverage for this area spans from central San Diego as far north as Irvine (Orange County), with drop-off in La Mesa or Jamul.

When a parrot is injured or orphaned, they are given care at our sanctuary in Jamul. As a Parrot Care volunteer, you will spend approximately 3 hours (one day each week) assisting with cleaning tasks, refilling food, washing dishes, raking enclosures, etc. Our daily work may not seem glamorous, but our cause is unique and important! Volunteers who have been completely trained on all basic tasks are offered optional "extra's" such as enrichment, hand-feeding, and prepping/hanging produce. Currently, we have a need for Parrot Care volunteers during the week (Monday-Friday). If you are interested in gaining more hands-on husbandry experience and giving back to a local organization, this could be the role for you! Please email your interest to learn more.
