Mission Statement
The mission of the Great Basin Outdoor School is "to ignite children's passion for learning and foster cooperation, respect and responsibility through hands-on discovery in the outdoor classroom". Vision Statement: " Experiential education in the natural world will nurture children and young adults and empower them to make positive choices in their own lives, productive contributions to their communities, and sustainable decisions for the Earth."
Description
Great Basin Outdoor School programs immerse students in multi-day overnight ecology camps in spectacular natural settings on Nevada’s shoreline of Lake Tahoe and day field studies at other local sites. Activities meet state curriculum standards in many subjects, especially science. Students hike, snowshoe, learn local ecology with hands-on activities, and do environmental projects to help keep Tahoe blue and reduce fire danger in the Tahoe Basin. Great Basin Outdoor School operates exclusively in Nevada and has served thousands of children as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 1998.
Grants, corporate sponsorship and individual support will keep the program affordable and provide fee reductions and scholarships for children in need. Please share our mission to serve Nevada children.
