I've been volunteering with the YMCA for three months now after reaching out through VolunteerMatch. I had a one-hour orientation that explained the curriculum we'd be using for the program, and then it was off to the schools to help. I commit to one day a week for roughly 3 1/2 hours. My Y supervisor is helpful and ready to answer any questions if needed. Overall, I've had a positive experience thus far with the YMCA. I'd highly recommend this organization to anyone who wants to help youth and has an interest in education.

This is my second year volunteering for the Y-Reads Program. It is an excellent program for children who may be struggling with reading. We try to instruct and encourage these children to enable them to read at their grade level or better. It is a rewarding opportunity for anyone who loves children and enjoys being a part of their growth as students. I believe this program will have a positive impact on their lives and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of that.

I have been volunteering with YReads for three years and found it to be an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience. My fellow volunteers are extremely helpful and dedicated to helping the students in the program. I have never felt unprepared to mentor and whenever I have a question, there is someone to answer it. Working with elementary students can be a challenge at times, but the payoff makes the time spent worthwhile! Although I am the one teaching them, I too have learned so much about working with younger students through this experience. I would definitely recommend getting involved with YReads to anyone who enjoys working with students.

YReads! Is an extremely dedicated program that is full of passionate people who genuinely enjoy helping children learn. The kids are wonderful, the staff is supportive and fun, and the environment is one you want to keep coming back to. I recommend this program to all and any age group, there’s a place for everyone with this program.

YReads is an excellent program that not only improves students' reading abilities, but also provides an amazing learning environment and good mentorship. Whereas YReads students normally have trouble with reading and comprehension in their regular classes, they excel once enrolled in this program. I think this is a testament to the overall structure of lesson plans, the dedication of their volunteers, and the research and planning behind the scenes. Being a volunteer takes a lot of work, but the rewards are worth every minute.

Volunteering with YReads! has been an amazing experience from the very beginning. The kids are amazing and the staff works to inspire both the students and the volunteers participating in the program. The lesson plans are simply and easy to teach, anyone can do it! I was nervous the first day but the children welcome you and make you feel right at home. Volunteering with YReads! has been the most rewarding experience and I now to look forward to it everyday!

The YReads! Reading Program is an excellent way of giving back to our communities while empowering our youth. I thoroughly enjoy interacting with the students as they matriculate through the program. The lesson plans are easy to follow and the kids love the material and the staff are second to none! I highly encourage high school students, college students and working professionals alike to devote a small part of their recreational time to give back. The results are definitely rewarding and gratifying!

Y-Reads is a FUN way to give back to our community. Helping K-3 graders learn to read starts them on a road to a life time of reading adventure. I strongly believe that a solid reading foundation is the key to future success, and this is a fun way to get our younger students on the right path!
Great support from the Y-Reads' staff; lots of excitement from the Y-Reads' students.
