Mission Statement
Run and promote action on welfare, animal conservation and preservation.
Create a custody and management Center for wildlife rehabilitation.
Support indigenous communities, as well as governmental and non-governmental institutions in the development and implementation of conservationist projects.
Promote and advise the people's organization in the development and evaluation of cultural and conservationist programs being respectful of the native traditions.
Develop transdisciplinary, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary training programs to indigenous people and public officials from the area.
Make plans for dissemination and promotion of local culture and customs.
Elaborate audiovisual printed and virtual material conducive to achieving the intended goals.
Description
ONCA took its first steps in January 2012 acquiring a plot of 124 ac. which we named "Freedom"; a space that will be used as diagnostic observation center and wildlife rehabilitation area. "Freedom" is located on the left bank of the Beni River between the Beni and La Paz Departments in the Bolivian Amazon. It is flanked by two important protected areas, the Madidi National Park and the Biosphere Reserve and Communal Lands "Pilón Lajas", one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity of the planet. In addition, hosts territories of indigenous ethnic groups (mean, ese’ejja, chimane and moseten) that strive to maintain and safeguard their cultural roots. Definitely, this is an ideal location that will allow tackling the task that we propose: protect the biological and cultural inheritance of this Bolivian Eden.
We are three partners who share a passionate love for nature that also have worked for years in wildlife management projects at different contexts (Bio-parks, Rehabilitation Centers, Noninvasive Research, Wildlife Sanctuaries, and Zoos). In late 2011 crystallized the idea of creating something different that not only offer a service of conservation and wildlife rehabilitation, but to work in coordination with the indigenous communities of the area, since they are the bearers of an ancient wisdom that remain untainted with the technology, consumerism and materialism of Western Society having achieved to coexist with the environment, progress and realize the par excellence universal utopia: happiness.
