Mission Statement

Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota [a 501(c)(3) charitable organization] rescues and re-homes cats and dogs, spays and neuters to reduce overpopulation, promotes responsible guardianship through educational programs, and advocates on behalf of companion animals.

Description

Pet Haven operates an adoption program for homeless cats and dogs. We use a network of volunteer foster homes to care for the animals in our adoption program. The cats and dogs receive thorough veterinary care including a spay/neuter, their needs are assessed by the foster homes, and then suitable permanent homes are found for them. Pet Haven carefully screens all adoptive homes and charges adoption fees for the cats and dogs placed through our program.

Pet Haven was founded in 1952. We are an all-volunteer organization. We do not have a shelter. All animals are cared for in our foster homes. We are a limited admission foster-based rescue and actively promote spaying & neutering to reduce companion animal overpopulation.

Pet Haven Inc. of Minnesota's vision is to be a rewarding place to volunteer, to find a quality home for each animal, to encourage a community of responsible companion animal guardians, to eliminate the community's need to euthanize dogs and cats as a means of population control, and to encourage a society where animals become more valued.

I actually came across Pet Haven on Volunteer Match in 2012. They were in need of an Assistant Treasurer and my skill set was a good match. I am thankful that I found Pet Haven! It is a fantastic organization with wonderful people behind it. Since it was founded in 1952, Pet Haven has a great operational history. Operations run smoothly and it is easy for a new volunteer to get up and running quickly. Since starting my volunteer work at Pet Haven I have had the chance to be on the Board of Directors as Vice President and am currently serving as the Treasurer. All of this was built upon answering an ad on Volunteer Match from Pet Haven almost 5 years ago. I can vouch for Pet Haven and encourage anyone seeking to make a difference in the Twin Cities animal rescue community to come join us in our mission to rescue and rehome cats and dogs, promote spay/neuter to reduce pet over-population, and advocate on behalf of companion animals. Pet Haven is very well organized and volunteers are valued and treated well. Everyone in Pet Haven is a volunteer. There are opportunities for people who want to foster a homeless cat or dog in their homes and also for people who want to help animals in other ways. Pet Haven is committed to rescuing and rehoming animals after they become homeless. They are equally committed to preventing cats and dogs from becoming homeless in the first place. I've been a Pet Haven volunteer for many years, am curently on the Board of Directors, and have also adopted some precious dogs from Pet Haven. I can't say enough positive things about this group. It is truly amazing that they do all that they do so well without any paid staff. This is proof that volunteers are truly welcomed and valued!
