Is it challenging? Yes. Is it rewarding? Yes, beyond imagination! We partner with students to fulfill course requirements and provide a rewarding experience. Gentiva Hospice visits patients in their personal residence or facility throughout the Houston Metropolitan Area. Assignments are made close to where you live, work or go to school. Provide emotional support and compassionate presence to hospice patients and their families by being a Patient Volunteer or provide support as an Administrative Volunteer. We have no set schedules or shifts. Our volunteers are able to volunteer for whatever works for their schedule. Our commitment is to mentor a Spiritual Care Volunteer in the Tree of Life Volunteer Program in many ways such as: Assessing the patient and/or caregiver’s spiritual status Companioning a patient/caregiver’s spiritual journey as s/he defines it Expanding the Spiritual Care Volunteer’s understanding of bereavement, dying and death Advanced educational opportunities and training Providing the Spiritual Care Volunteer with a choice of personal spiritual self-assessment tools Companioning the Spiritual Care Volunteer in personal spiritual practices Providing real world experience in the hospice setting through visiting and calling patients/caregivers, shadowing staff, attending Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
