Senior Meal Delivery Driver (Back-up)

Hunger Intervention Program's Senior Community Meal program prepares lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for seniors. We serve meals at the Lake City Community Center for in-person dining and also deliver meals to homebound Seniors in the north Seattle area. We need volunteer delivery drivers to help with getting meals to seniors. HIP is looking for a volunteer delivery driver to deliver meals to be a back-up volunteer. For this position, we're looking for someone who is available on Monday, Wednesday or Friday for 1.5-2 hour shift. Meals are picked up from the Lamb of God Church in Lake City at 11:30am and are delivered to apartment complexes and homes across North Seattle. The route takes approximately 1.5-2 hours. You'll need to use your own vehicle, but HIP will reimburse you for mileage. This position requires a background check. Please click the "Respond" button below for more information or to sign up.

HIP's meal programs provide vital meals to our neighbors, young and old, through programs like our Healthy HIP Packs, Afterschool Meals, Summer Meals, Shelter Meals, and Senior Community Meals. We offer various nutrition education classes, activities, gardening programs, food justice workshops, and cooking demonstrations for children, adults, and families throughout the year. HIP also actively participates in several different coalitions to advocate for food justice issues, locally and nationally. What is the board’s role at HIP? The HIP board is a governing board, providing oversight and leadership to the organization. It makes sure the best interests of the community are represented, and funds are stewarded in support of the mission. Board members are expected to participate in a monthly board meeting, serve on board committees, and/or hold an officer position as needed, and support fundraising efforts through personally significant annual gifts, connecting to other giving opportunities, and helping at HIP events and outreach. We value a Board of directors as diverse as the community we serve and give special consideration to people who have a lived experience of food insecurity. We are specifically looking for people with expertise in one/more of these areas: poverty alleviation, agriculture, farm labor, food systems, social work, community organizing, advocacy, youth services, or senior services; skills in the area of fundraising, law, human resources, non-profit governance, or data & program evaluation. All our Board members are passionate about food justice, understand the importance of working with a racial equity lens, and value continued learning that influences our work. Help Prepare Meals for The Oaks Shelter!

Help our Shelter Meal Program Coordinator prepare dinners for residents at the The Oaks Enhanced Shelter in Shoreline. Volunteers are needed in the HIP kitchen M-Th from 2:30-5:30pm. All cooking skill levels are welcome!

Healthy HIP Packs Packing Parties

Hunger Intervention Program provides weekend food bags to local elementary and middle school students who need them. These food bags, which we call Healthy HIP Packs, are filled with shelf-stable, nutritious food to ensure that kids don’t go hungry over the weekend. Come out and join us at our packing parties to help assemble these HIP Packs! This is a great opportunity for folks of all ages, and no training is needed beforehand. Packing parties are held every twice a month on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00pm. The mission of Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) is to increase food security for underserved populations in north King County through nutritious meals, educational programs, and advocacy.

Description

HIP’s programs bring nutrition education to local families and vital meals to neighbors in need through our Summer Meals for Kids, Afterschool Snack, Shelter Meals, and Senior Meals programs. Our Healthy HIP Packs program also provides vital weekend food support to children at risk of hunger when they are out of school. HIP is actively engaged with many local, statewide, and national coalitions of food justice organizations to advocate for policy level changes to address hunger.

My son and I have been volunteering with HIP for over a year now. We volunteer monthly at their food packing drives and weekly during the summer with the Summer Meals Program. It is not only a rewarding experience, it is also a lot of fun! I enjoy supporting an organization that is so in touch with its local community and provides nutritious food to families in need. Everyone deserves access to nutritious and delicious food! HIP is a wonderful organization to support.
