About the Board of Directors Position: Suicide Prevention Services of America is in need of dedicated individuals to join our board of directors. As a board member, you'll play a important role in guiding our strategic direction and governance. We're looking for compassionate and professional individuals who are passionate about making a real difference in suicide prevention, loss support, and mental health within our community. Location and Time: Our monthly board meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of every month 7:30 AM- 8:30 AM in Batavia, IL. You must be able to attend in person. Responsibilities: Provide compassionate and professional leadership by guiding our strategic direction with integrity and empathy. Engage actively in our monthly board meetings and committee work, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued in our decision-making process. Support our fundraising initiatives and community outreach efforts to ensure the success of our programs and services. Advocate for suicide prevention awareness and mental health education initiatives, both within our community and beyond. Make a commitment to actively participate in and support our main fundraising events: Here for Life Walk in September, Harvest of Hope Brunch in November, and Run for Life 5k in late spring. Qualifications: A genuine commitment to our mission and values, including compassion, integrity, inclusivity, authenticity, curiosity, and professionalism. While having prior experience on a board or in leadership roles is helpful, it's not a requirement. We openly invite individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply, including those with backgrounds in areas like law, accounting, business, nonprofit management, mental health, and marketing. Willingness to dedicate time and effort to board-related activities and responsibilities, including attending meetings and events. We're Here for Life ! https://www.spsamerica.org/ Our Services: Counseling Services: We offer personalized mental health counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with thoughts of suicide, suicide attempt survivors, those coping with the aftermath of suicide loss, and struggling with their mental health. Our counseling provides specialized support in navigating through the complex emotions associated with suicide and suicide loss, offering a safe and understanding environment for healing and growth. School Contracts: Collaborating with schools to offer counseling services for students, ensuring access to mental health support within educational settings. Support Groups: Hosting dedicated support groups for survivors of suicide loss, survivors of suicide attempts, and caregivers of survivors of attempts, fostering a sense of community and understanding among those affected by suicide. National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Support: Providing response and assistance through the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline 988, offering immediate support for individuals in crisis. Community and School-Based Education: Conducting educational initiatives aimed at raising awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. This includes teaching suicide warning sign identification and connection skills to students. Professional Workshops: Offering training workshops and trainings for professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. Community Awareness: Engaging in outreach and awareness campaigns to promote understanding and reduce stigma surrounding suicide and mental health.
