ZACH's season of professional theatre productions celebrates diversity and offers a wide array of cross-cultural educational and participatory activities.
The goals of ZACH's programming are to:
- Foster in the Austin area a broader, deeper and more humane thinking and action
- Connect, make meaning and transform society
- Entertain, celebrate and educate
- Relate to diverse communities
Description
In addition to a diverse season of Mainstage productions, ZACH also offers four award-winning education programs that reach more than 60,000 children (ages 3+) in Central Texas each year.
Project InterAct:
ZACH's award-winning company of professional actors tour to schools and community centers in Central Texas with delightful adaptations of classics and original new plays for grades K-6. Performances are accompanied by professionally created study guides and on-site workshops. The company will reach 50,000+ students this year, more than half of who are designated as "at-risk" of failing to complete a high school education. For many students, this is the only live theatre experience available.
Project Discovery:
ZACH's youth audience outreach program permits up to 2,000 Austin area middle school and high school students to see Mainstage shows for as little as $2-$5 per ticket. Students are prepared for the performance in their classroom with an informative study guide and educational video. The students then come to the performance and meet the actors and artists after the show.
Performing Arts School:
ZACH's popular and award-winning school holds classes and workshops days, nights and weekends on a variety of theatrical subjects. Over 2,000 children, teens and adults will attend this year, including a much-needed program for home-schooled students. Scholarships are granted on a need-basis to disadvantaged Austin area youth.
Playspace:
Ideal for pre-school childcare groups and parents of young children, Playspace is a full season of interactive plays created specifically for children ages 3-7 and offered at the theatre in the weekday morning hours. Serving up to 6,000 children each year, this program combines elements of creative drama and storytelling with the children's own imagination to create a unique audience experience. Children provide sound effects and movement, and are frequently invited right up on stage with to actors to participate in the action.
