Mission Statement

GallopNYC uses equine-centered therapy to help riders in NYC with disabilities walk, talk and learn, inspiring them to live their lives as fully, independently and productively as possible.

Description

GallopNYC is a non-profit organization based in New York City that offers therapeutic horsemanship programs to children and adults with disabilities. We operate our riding program at four locations, all within NYC. Schedules at each location vary seasonally.

Therapeutic horsemanship teaches the skills of horseback riding and horse knowledge to build developmental, emotional, social, and physical skills for each individual rider. Under the direction of a PATH International certified instructor, supported by trained volunteers, each rider progressively acquires riding skills and measurable improvements in life skills. Through weekly sessions, we help riders walk, talk, learn and have FUN! We also offer hippotherapy services. Therapeutic horsemanship means learning to ride a horse but it means much more - it means building a bond with a horse, learning to care for a horse, understanding how horses perceive the world and respond to people, and ultimately being a leader to a horse.

It made me feel good seeing all the smiles on the kids faces and how much fun they were having.

GallopyNYC is a great organization to volunteer with! It's very rewarding, the staff are quite knowledgeable and appreciate of volunteers, and you work with amazing students and horses. This is the perfect way to volunteer if you enjoy being outdoors, like animals - horses especially, and enjoy working with kids or adults that have various disabilities. It's such a unique and satisfying way to give back to the NYC community! Couldn't be happier with this way to consistently volunteer on a weekly basis and see the incredibly progress that is made with the students.
