Hospice volunteering brings many opportunities for personal growth and learning while providing support to patients and families. Volunteering your musical and artistic talents with patients and families can be especially helpful. Opportunities include bringing music and art activities to assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and to patients' private homes. We encourage our volunteers to use their individual skills and talents to bring comfort to patients and families.

Patient care support volunteers help patients and families by providing companionship for hospice patients. This can be anything from sitting quietly with a bed-bound patient, to taking an active patient out of the home for errands etc. Patient care support volunteers may play cards or other games with the patient, read to them, or simply listen as the patient reflects on his or her life. In rural communities, there may be times when volunteers will have no assigned patients, but may be requested to be on call as needed as it fits into the volunteer's schedule.

As a Horizon hospice volunteer, there are a variety of opportunities to make a life changing difference in the lives of patients and their families. Our volunteers provide compassionate care to patients and caregivers throughout our seven branch offices throughout the area.
