Mission Statement
AARP Tax-Aide is a nation-wide, volunteer-run program that provides free tax assistance, preparation and e-filing for low-to-moderate income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Through IRS certified volunteers, Tax-Aide will assist in the preparation and filing Federal Form 1040 and California State Form 540 plus certain other required schedules and forms. The Contra Costa program is sponsored by AARP's charitable affiliate, the AARP Foundation, in cooperation with Contra Costa County, the Internal Revenue Service, and the California Franchise Tax Board. We operate 19 tax preparation sites that are open from February 1st until April 15th each year.
Description
Contra Costa County AARP Tax-Aide volunteers help taxpayers of all ages, focusing on those who are age 60 and older. They are members of a team providing free tax preparation and e-filing of Federal and California tax returns. The volunteers are IRS Certified tax counselors, supervisors, training coordinators, instructors, technology coordinators, appointment schedulers, and greeters.
AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest, free volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service which helps taxpayers with limited and moderate income.
People who are looking for a challenging, and fun, volunteer opportunity and if they are comfortable working on basic tax returns and use a computer, they can become a Certified Tax Counselor.
The program is offered at approximately 19 sites in Contra Costa County including senior centers, libraries and other convenient locations from February 1 through April 15 every year.
