Our mission is to build healthy, safe and inclusive supportive housing communities as a long-term solution to homelessness.
Description
Avalon Housing is a nonprofit real estate developer, property manager and services provider. We own and manage rental units in over 25 properties in Washtenaw County. We provide support services to our tenants and to individuals and families living in public housing and in units owned by private landlords. In total we serve more than 800 people, including 200 children.

Avalon Housing provides much needed help to underserved individuals and families in the Ann Arbor area. Their organizational strategy of offering voluntary support services for their residents, who often have mental and/or physical disabilities, is a great policy. Offering support when needed, but not forcing residents into actions against their will, takes the burden of an unstable living situation off the shoulders of the residents, and increases their chances of success in the future.

Avalon has a nationally-recognized program to help County residents who are homeless or have extremely low incomes. They help residents obtain medical benefits and jobs training, and run community garden (Edible Avalon) and beautification (Gardening with Grace) programs for residents.
