By using and advocating strong sterilization policies, implementing aggressive adoption programs and promoting active community involvement, PACA effectively participates in improving the lives of animals in our community.
Description
The People's Anti-Cruelty Association (PACA) was founded in 1973 as a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue organization. It was created to provide a safe haven for homeless dogs until a permanent home was found. PACA is the oldest No-Kill animal rescue organization in the state of New Mexico. Albuquerque Animal Rescue (AAR) was created in 1992 as the community outreach division of the organization and added the rescue of cats to the venue. AAR focuses on the adoption phase of the animal rescue work. PACA/AAR relies on foster care to provide a safe, home type environment until a permanent home is found.

I worked with ACAT, which held adoptions at the Wyoming/Academy PetSmart. They suspended their adoption efforts, sadly - but PACA continues, and NMAF also holds adoptions at another location. If you want to help animals get adopted, these are low-key opportunities that are less depressing than the shelter. If you already have all the pets your lease allows, this might be something to put your heart into.

I have volunteered with PACA/AAR since July of 2009. I volunteer with the cats, but have talked with volunteers with the dogs as well. All of the volunteers are SO friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The animals we get are so great as well! If you're an animal lover, this is the place for you to volunteer! I love it! I love it so much that I offered to be the volunteer coordinator for the cats!
