Our mission is to nourish with good food, empower with knowledge, and serve with compassion. Our Community Connector team supports clients with services and resources outside of food. The role of the Community Connector is to offer support to clients by having in-depth conversations about issues they may be going through and what resources are availabe depending on their need. Impact of Volunteering: The Volunteer Community Connector has an impact on the lives of community members by having meaningful conversations and helping them navigate the social services available to them. Ensuring that all clients feel heard, seen, and valued. Empowering with knowledge Ensuring equity - maintaining access for everyone regardless of their background or circumstances. Volunteers will use the following skills: De-escalation of difficult situations Communication with clients of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, languages, etc. Navigating resources of South Seattle with clients Providing high level customer service to clients Case managment to assisting clients with navigating social services A day in the life of a Community Connector: Check in with the Outreach Coordinator/Community Engaagement Managaer on site to see what the goals are for the day. Grab your notebook/tablet for client intake. Get settled in the Community Connector Hub. Meet with clients and provide resources or support community partners onsite. Assist clients with intake and scheduling appoitnments. File any paperwork or notes as needed. Debrief with the Community Connector before heading out for the day. Commitment: We aim to provide the best support we can to clients and for that reason ask applicants to be able to commit to the following. At least one four-hour shift per wee for a six-month period, during client service hours(Tues-Fri, 10 am-2 pm) Completing a criminal background check as required for all individuals working directly with client personal information Responsibilities: 1st point of contact for clients: answer questions about availabe client services and appointment hours Client intake: Assist clients with filling out the Client Intake form to gain understanding of what types of resources and services a client is in need of Client Follow Up: Check in with clients to see if the resources they were connected to were helpful and/or if they need additional resources. File management: Scan and file forms and paperwork accordingly. Resource Knowledge: Stay up to date on resources and events and how we share with clients in a professional manner. We are looking for individuals that can/are: Over 18 and have at least 5 years experience working directly with people in a social service field (case managaer, counselor, social work, mental health services, etc) Knowledgeable about resources available in the South Seattle area (Rental Assistance, Family Resources, etc.) Speak about social issues that impact our community's access to resources (food, housing, employment, etc.) Bi-lingual preferred but not required Types of interactions that can be expected: A Community Connector will be onsite and available for support during the shift, as well as other staff. Unhoused indviduals looking for resources on housing, safe parking spots, clothing banks, free showers, etc. Families looking for diapers, formulas, car seats, rental/utility assistance. Indiviuals looking for ID vouchers or employment resources. Individuals that want to have conversations about what is going on in their lives or give updates on what resources worked and didn't work.
