High School Volunteers needed in all Ventura County communities

The Building Bridges intergenerational student program is a valuable part of CAREGIVERS: Volunteers Assisting The Elderly organization. CAREGIVERS was founded in 1984 and has assisted thousands of seniors across Ventura County. Building Bridges is a fun after-school program in which high school students (ages 14-18) help the elderly in their community. Small groups of students will visit frail, homebound seniors after school. Students assist with chores/yard work in a supervised setting. Students experience a real-life history lesson through these visits with local seniors. It is a great way for students to accumulate credits for community service requirements and valuable experience to mention on college applications. Perfect for student and youth groups....Girl Scouts, Key Club, FCA, etc. A big win/win program!

Friendly Callers for Local Seniors

Since 1984, CAREGIVERS has provided thousands of older Ventura County residents with one-on-one personal help and friendship. We help homebound seniors in the cities of Ventura, Oxnard, Pt. Hueneme, Camarillo, Santa Paula, and Fillmore. Our caring volunteers have supported these seniors, helping them with many tasks they could no longer do themselves. One of our featured programs is the Phone Friend program. Phone friends make weekly calls to seniors. Often these seniors are homebound and living alone. These calls provide reassurance and joy in the midst of what might be a lonely week. If you are called to this special service, we would love to hear from you.

Transportation Support for Seniors to medical appointments

CAREGIVERS was founded in 1984 and has assisted thousands of seniors in Ventura County. If you have an affinity for the elderly, have a safe working vehicle, and are able to drive seniors to medical appointments, you may be a good candidate for our senior transportation program. Drivers are called by CAREGIVERS one week or more prior to an appointment and choose to accept or decline the request. Drivers pick up seniors, drive to the appointment, wait for the senior, and then drive the senior home. Volunteer drivers may designate how many drives they perform per month. Even one drive per month makes a big difference.

Volunteer Liaisons to check in with volunteers regularly

Volunteer liaisons are needed to assist The CAREGIVERS Program Manager by making monthly check-in phone calls to volunteers in the program. Friendly phone calls with volunteers enable regular touchpoints, information exchange, gentle reminders, and updates regarding the volunteers' senior matches. Training and a manual are provided to support your success. You can perform this volunteer function from home and are not required to be here at the office. By encouraging and communicating with our volunteers you can make a difference in the lives of many Ventura County seniors! Hospital to Home Support for Seniors

CAREGIVERS was founded in 1984 and has provided support for thousands of seniors. One of our essential programs is the Hospital to Home program. A CAREGIVERS volunteer provides basic assistance to seniors returning home after a hospital stay. The support generally extends over a six to nine-week period. The volunteer aids with kind acts, such as meal preparation, basic household tasks, and transportation to medical appointments. A volunteer is matched with the senior based on compatibility and location. You may assist this senior in brief period of special need, but the impact you make will be lasting. If you feel this is a way you can make a meaningful difference, we hope to hear from you.

Volunteers are matched with a senior friend. Generally, a volunteer donates 2-4 hours, one day a week. This might include friendly visits, transportation to medical appointments, friendly calls, and assistance with neighborly tasks.
