Our exchange students are top-notch kids who come from a variety of countries and are eager to experience US culture with you and their host families. Counselor, advocate and friend are just a few roles you'll play as you oversee ASSE students in your area to help them get the most out of their exchange year. By getting involved as an ASSE Area Representative, you will be making a difference in the world - one young person at a time. As an ASSE Area Representative, you’ll be that all-important point person for students placed in your area during their year abroad. Mentor, advocate, and friend are just some of the roles you will play as you oversee the ASSE program in your area and help an international student and local family get the most out of their exchange year. The ideal candidate has the following traits: Flexible and efficient in scheduling their time Has a positive attitude Has excellent communication skills Is involved in the local community Is outgoing, caring, enthusiastic, motivated, and a natural self-starter Has a desire to make an impact in the world Is comfortable using computers, the Internet, and social media Has a strong ability to recruit people, if not is open to learning Has a love for international education and culture You’ll receive training and ongoing support from your ASSE Area Coordinator, and be a part of a team atmosphere with other Area Representatives in the DMV. Guide, advocate, support and friend are just some of the ways you will be involved as you oversee the ASSE program in your area and help an international student get the most out of their year here. An Area Representative should be comfortable connecting with the community to reach potential host families. If you have good communication skills (especially listening), an appreciation for different cultures, an outgoing and positive personality you will be great for this. In addition, you'll help teenagers in your own community become ASSE exchange students abroad. Opening up the world of international experience and learning to students in your area is an important role of being an ASSE Representative.
