The Agape Cafe is committed to serving our homeless and in-need neighbors breakfast with dignity and respect. Our primary goals are to enhance self-esteem and promote wellness among our guests, our volunteers and ourselves.

Description

The Agape cafe serves breakfast to approximately 65 guests each Wednesday morning between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM and is open from 6AM to 9AM. Our guests select their meal from a menu that changes weekly but always includes eggs any style, bacon or sausage, homefries, toast, oatmeal or grits, juice and milk, coffee, pancakes or french toast, plus other specials like biscuits and gravy. Volunteer servers will wait on guests and then have a chance to sit and visit with them. We serve up a hearty dose of good food in an environment that encourages interaction between the volunteer staff and the guests.

The volunteer coordinator, Laura Semken, is friendly and welcoming. She smiles a lot and makes it easy to help serve guests, even if you've not been a waiter before. The meals are served in an old church that still has its huge pipe organ in the loft, although the pews have been removed. At the end of your shift, once you've finished serving guests, a volunteer can place his or her breakfast order and dine with the guests. Although their posts are infrequent, you can find their Facebook page under Agape Cafe at Old Brick.
