Works with: One boy, 11 years old We are looking for a volunteer who can mentor an 11 year old boy whose mother is currently battling stage 4 breast cancer. He likes to play, run around, basketball, video games and is into Astronomy. He is located in Compton, CA. Can you become his friend? Description of Role: Cancer changes everything for the family and children enrolled in our program would like support from a mentor during hard times. Walk With Sally is dedicated to providing hope through our individualized mentoring and community building services to empower children experiencing trauma through a parent, guardians, relative, sibling's cancer journey. No one should face a loved one's cancer alone. Responsibilities: Commit to the program and assigned mentee for a minimum of 1 year Engage mentee in positive, creative, and/or community building activities for at least 6 hours per month (We also suggest free of cost activities for you to fulfill this requirement) Participate quarterly in a mentor roundtables to connect with other mentors and build community Maintain regular contact with assigned Case Manager for further support, guidance, and/or access to resources Have fun, be you, and take of yourself too Qualifications Needed: 22 years of age or older Have lived with or lost a parent / sibling/ friend/ loved one to cancer or are a cancer survivor (must be in remission for 5 years) Successfully pass background check Please feel free to check out our website at www.walkwithsally.org or leave us a comment with any additional questions you may have.

No prior experience is required however we ask that you enjoy interacting with children from diverse backgrounds. Walk With Sally is looking for a mentor for an 8 year old girl in our program whose mother is being treated for breast cancer. She likes drawing, flowers, favorite subjects in school include math, reading, would want to be a Librarian, an ideal Saturday consists of a Water Park to go swimming and on slides and likes cats. She lives in Highland Park, can you become her friend? You will spend one on one time with your mentee, be a friend, a support system and an advocate should they need additional support. We also host monthly friendship activities that create a sense of community among the mentors and mentees in our program. Please see below for more information. Mentor Requirements: -California Driver's license -22 years or older -Have a cancer story. Either have a loved one experience cancer or you are a cancer survivor (in remission for 5 years or more) -Commit to a minimum of 6 hours a month for one year
