Here are the things you may not know about being a hospice volunteer: 1) You don't have to cry. 2)You never need to share your religious beliefs. In fact, you get to learn about other beliefs and traditions which is fascinating. 3) The volunteer coordinators are THE BEST and offer a variety of ways to support the volunteers. A volunteer need never feel alone. 4) Hospice volunteers are the best humans you will ever meet. So often, just spending a morning with other hospice volunteers completely balances the harsh news of the day. People are good and hospice volunteers are proof. 5) You don't have to work with patients (but the patients are wonderful). So much support is needed in all sorts of ways! 6) This is a big secret: volunteering for Evergreen hospice is FUN! Where there is comfort there are wonderful people, and wonderful people are fun to be around. Please consider making the first steps toward the excellent training and see for yourself.

I searched VolunteerMatch.org for a long time and saw Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland but scrolled past it a few times. I was always drawn back to it and decided to explore what it was all about. I was so impressed with their message, personnel and facility that I knew I had found what I wanted to do. I began volunteering in April 2015 and have enjoyed every minute. Everyone there makes this a very special place. They give excellent medical and emotional care to the patients and thoughtful support to their families and friends by guiding them through this difficult journey with compassion and understanding. They are so supportive of their volunteers and express it often in many different ways. They make us feel valued in what we do at hospice.

Volunteering at Evergreen Hospice has changed my life. I've gotten so much more than I've given. There is something for everyone to do. From direct contact with patients and their families to organizing supply closets to phone calling, filing and quilt making. Whatever you can offer is so appreciated by this wonderful community. You will make friends and be supported in all ways. The growth and fellowship that you will find here is such a rare gift that you can give to yourself. Contact them today.

HOSPICE = HEART SPACE!! I have volunteered for several nonprofits over the years and I can unequivocally state that Evergreen Hospice appreciates their volunteers and shows them so with kindness, thanks and gratitude, more than any other!! Many different opportunities are offered and you will learn much about yourself and how profound life's journey can be!

I started volunteering for hospice in April 2014. It is a wonderful experience to be able to serve a family or individual so they can experience a little bit of calm in a difficult time for them. I cherish the memories I have and the things I have learned from my volunteer experience. The people of hospice make it such a positive experience.

I've been a volunteer at Evergreen hospice program since 2008. I love the staff very much. From my encounters with them I realized how professional and friendly they are. I also love the patient population that I serve. Through out these years of volunteer work at Evergreen, I have learned so many lessons--some of which that had significant impacts on my personal life. Evergreen is where I belong. I will volunteer at this facility, as long as I can.

My hospice volunteer experience at Evergreen is the best thing I added to my life this year. I hoped it might be a satisfying experience of being in service but I did not anticipate all of the wonderful new friends I would make or the numerous enrichment opportunities provided for volunteers. Most importantly, I was surprised to discover and grow parts of myself I had not realized were there. I have never felt so much appreciation by an organization for my volunteer participation. I strongly recommend Evergreenhealth Hospice to anyone with a desire to serve and grow and learn in equal measure.

Evergreen Hospice offers just about the only volunteer opportunities for reiki practitioners in the Seattle area. The needs are great and the rewards are plenty, so don't hesitate to join.

It is an honor to serve as a hospice volunteer. Life comes into sharper focus in the face of a chronic illness and impending death. Insights you receive while witnessing and sharing in another's journey far are timeless gifts to you as well as your patient/family. The orientation, ongoing educational opportunities, supervisory support and the feeling of being a member of the interdisciplinary team with the Evergreen Hospice is an outstanding experience!
