The English Learning Center does great work with adults who are refugees (i.e., people who leave their homes because of war or persecution) and immigrants. I teach English to a small group of students and have been very inspired by them. They are highly motivated learners who are eager to participate in and contribute to their new communities. The students I have worked with are hard workers who are committed to improving their English to find better work and help their children. My students have been very warm and grateful for my help. They have opened up my mind and heart. The center made sure I had the training and support I needed to be an effective volunteer. The center's staff is accessible and responsive. In addition, I have enjoyed getting to know some of the other volunteers, who teach English, math and citizenship.
