Veteran Peer Mentor Purpose: The role of a Veteran Peer Mentor is to serve as an advocate for a veteran who may be transitioning into civilian life or may simply need a form of support. You have the option to do as little or as much as you feel comfortable. You do need to be a veteran yourself. Female veterans encouraged to apply! A Veteran Peer Mentor can mentor in many different ways. You can mentor one-on-one. If trained, mentors can serve as a group leader for the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) peer group meetings. Our support groups are designed to create a free and confidential support for active duty, reserves, guards, and veterans. Key Responsibilities: Creating a safe, supportive environment for veterans and service members who are readjusting after deployments or serving in the military Mentoring veterans by providing encouragement, support, and resources Maintaining a friendly, but professional relationship with your mentee Requirements: Be a Veteran of one of the branches of the United States Military, including the Army, Marine Corp, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or their corresponding Reserve or Guard branch Must report number and type of interactions to Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) Peer Service Coordinator or Assistant Peer Service Coordinator All volunteers must first attend MVPN Military Cultural Competency Training or must have been trained by MVPN in the last three years

Peer Court Mentor - Veterans Treatment Court Purpose: The role of the Volunteer Veteran Mentor is to act as a coach, a guide, a role model, an advocate, and a support for the individuals he/she is working with. A mentor is intended to encourage, guide, and support the mentee as they progress through the Travis County Veterans Treatment Court process. This will include listening to the concerns of the Veteran and assisting the veteran in determining what their needs are. Female Veterans encouraged to apply! Founded in 1974, Samaritan Center is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization serving Central Texas. Samaritan Center’s philosophy is based on a holistic belief that there is a close relationship between the mind, body, spirit and community. This philosophy is the foundation of our multidisciplinary team approach to mental health. We provide professional counseling, integrative medicine, peer support, and wellness education that are accessible and affordable for all. Our Hope for Heroes program serves veterans and military families facing service-related trauma and stress. Services are free for veterans and members of military families, and very low-cost for low-income families. Most insurance is also accepted.
