The Miss America Program is about personal growth, scholarship, setting & achieving goals and self-improvement. As a local preliminary to the national Miss America Competition, the Miss Oakland Scholarship Pageant will promote higher education for the young women of Oakland and neighboring East Bay communities.
Description
The Miss Oakland Scholarship Pageant will recognize and encourage the spirit of achievement and encourage the growth of the young women of Oakland in all areas of endeavor. Additionally, our goal is to utilize the title of Miss Oakland to promote the City of Oakland and bring attention to the broad diversity of our community. Finally, the Miss Oakland Scholarship Pageant will seek to encourage, support and promote the role of women in all aspects of our community, as well as encouraging volunteerism throughout the community.

I have been involved with the Miss Oakland Scholarship Pageant since 2005. It was an honor to serve as the reigning Miss Oakland in 2006. The committee members and volunteers are wonderful people and a joy to work with. This group believes in the development of young women and I am proud to be a part of it. Recently one of the girls I've had the pleasure of watching grow through this local organization was crowned as California's Outstanding Teen at the state competition. It is because of the dedication and care from the voluneteers of this program that these girls are able to acheive their dreams and recive scholarship money to further their educations. I would highly recomend supporting this group. I wouldn't still be around if I didn't LOVE it.
