Mission Statement
Our mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin.
Description
The Food Bank plays a central role in the food assistance network in San Francisco and Marin, where one in four residents struggles to make ends meet. The food we deliver to our 450 partnering organizations, including 240 weekly grocery pantries, provides critical support to low-income families, seniors and individuals. Each week, our programs serve more than 144,000 people.
Delivering sustenance is just the beginning. We’re helping people achieve a lifetime of good health by providing nutritious foods - including an abundance of farm-fresh produce - and other vital resources such as nutrition education classes and pre-screening for food stamp benefits.
We can only accomplish all of this with the tremendous coordinated effort of year-round community support. Volunteers are at the very heart of our operations, boxing bins of produce straight from the farm, sorting food dirve donations, and packing bulk foods like rice and beans into family-sized portions. This year, more than 25,000 people volunteered their time in support of ending hunger in our community. We invite you to join us!
