Mission Statement

CoachArt’s mission is to create a transformative arts and athletics community for families impacted by childhood chronic illness.

Description

CoachArt is a non-profit organization offering free lessons in the arts and athletics to children impacted by chronic illness, ages 5-18. Our vision is that one day every family impacted by chronic illness will be connected to a community of support and an opportunity to learn and grow together.

We partner with talented volunteers and arts/athletics programs to offer lessons in music, art, yoga, photography, dance, soccer - and more! Our CoachArt team matches each individual child with our volunteers and program partners, who provide 8 week lessons in a shared activity of choice.

Didn't hear back so I contacted the site I was interested in myself (Southside of Chicago). They never heard of CoachArt.

This a great way to branch out to outside communities and explore opportunities that we are all privileged to have. Most importantly meet and create connections with people in and around the community.

I'm biased because, full disclosure, I'm CoachArt's Executive Director. But I'm also one of our volunteers. I do basketball lessons every Wednesday with a 12-year old CoachArt student impacted by chronic illness, and it's the single most fulfilling part of my week. And I can tell you, in the office, the team works hard to make the experience as (1) meaningful and (2) convenient as possible for our volunteers. And the CoachArt staff welcomes any feedback about how we can do better!

I first joined CoachArt as a way to share my skills and get involved having just moved to the Bay Area. I couldn't have imagined the feeling of gratitude I would experience during my time volunteering with CoachArt. I began my lessons with a 13 year old boy and his family in February this year and we have so much FUN together. We've completed one round (8 weeks) of cooking lessons and now we are a couple weeks into our second round. I don't even pay much attention to the 8 weeks - I just look forward to going! His family has been so kind and loving, welcoming me into their home, and he has learned so much, shown excitement about the dishes we cook, and offered so much input, suggestion and creativity towards the recipes. It's been a life-changing experience for me and I have made friends with a wonderful family that I hope to stay in touch with. Thank you CoachArt!!
