Tamarisk’s mission is to create a caring presence and a safe haven for the thoughts, feelings, and concerns of persons, and their families, faced with the end stages of terminal illness. At no cost to them, we attend to the patient’s non-medical needs, while simultaneously providing much-needed respite to caregivers. For most of the families that Tamarisk helps, our service ends with the death of the ill family member. Our desire is to support them beyond this point by offering appropriate support (where invited by the family) for at least one year. Duties of our bereavement coordinator could include: Send 2 - 3 cards during 1st year Include grief support group information in first mailing/card Make phone calls where invited and be willing to visit if family desires Follow up memorial invitation with a phone call Consistent record keeping, communication, and follow up with Tamarisk program director Follow up with families 2-3 yrs after loss with calls, cards and support as needed

Tamarisk volunteers provide regularly-scheduled respite for caregivers within the family and companionship for the patient. For approximately 2-4 hours a week Tamarisk volunteers assure the safety and well-being of the patient (companion) while the family caregiver is occupied or away. During home visits, Tamarisk volunteer caregivers socialize, play cards and other games, share a movie or listen to music with the companion. They might prepare a light meal, run errands, shop for groceries, help with housekeeping tasks or read quietly to the companion while he or she rests. The companion's day to day needs form the agenda. Tamarisk has seen a significant increase in the number of families contacting us for support this past year; we have families waiting for your help! Contact us now to begin the training process and join us for our next new volunteer event. Visit www.tamarisk.org for more information

Tamarisk companion volunteers are a caring in-home presence 2 to 4 hours per week for persons coping with life-threatening illness who are residing in Anoka County and adjoining cities. We define life-threatening illness as: * chronic life-limiting (such as Parksinson's, ALS, Alzheimer's); and/or * persons receiving palliataive care or hospice care. While attending to non-medical needs, we create a safe haven for the thoughts, feelings & concerns of the patient. As important, we provide much-needed respite for the primary caregiver. Please refer to our website for an overview of our organization and mission: www.tamarisk.org. Tamarisk DOES NOT CHARGE for volunteers' time . This is a free service!

Tamarisk is looking for quality people with experience in marketing and/or fundraising. Tamarisk has been experiencing tremendous growth in the need of our services and needs team oriented, hands-on board members that can help us prepare financially and organizationally to meet the needs of our community. As a 100% DONATION-DRIVEN organization, it would be useful to have an experienced fundraiser on our board to offer that important perspective. Tamarisk's trained volunteers go into the homes of persons coping with the end stages of life-threatening illness, attending to the non-medical needs of the person who is ill and offering respite to the caregiver. We do not charge for our volunteers' time. For a good overview of Tamarisk's mission, please visit our website www.tamarisk.org.
