Make no-sew blankets for patients at the end of life

Flexible Schedule | Virtual Opportunity

BJC Hospice in Saint Louis, MO, seeks volunteers to make no-sew fleece blankets for hospice patients. You don’t need any sewing skills to make them, just the ability to cut fabric and tie knots. You’ll need just a pair of scissors and enough fleece to make a finished blanket of about 54 by 65 inches (you'll be responsible for purchasing your own fleece and providing your own scissors). Our goal is to provide a homemade blanket to every patient, and it means the world to them that someone was willing to take the time to make them a blanket by hand. Blankets are a great volunteer project for anyone to do, whether you’re working alone (this can be done while bingeing on Netflix!) or as part of a school group, church group, family or business. Instructions will be provided. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate court-appointed community service volunteers at this time.

Attention licensed hair stylists and barbers: hospice patients need your help!

BJC Hospice is seeking licensed hair dressers or barbers to cut and style hair for terminally ill patients. Often hospice patients are too sick to leave home, and getting a haircut can help them feel wonderful. You can visit patients in residences or nursing homes in the community. You will be able to visits patients on days and at times convenient for you (the time commitment would be about 2 to 5 hours a month). Your services will be provided to patients at no charge. You must have a valid license and will need to provide two professional references. You will need to attend a short volunteer orientation.
