Mission Statement
CUMAC feeds people and changes lives. It works to alleviate hunger and its root causes for those in need in Paterson, Passaic County and northern New Jersey.
Description
CUMAC acts as one of the largest feeding programs in northern New Jersey. CUMAC's pantry provides food to over 40,000 people a year and our depot handles nearly 2 million pounds of food for a network of 55 feeding programs.
CUMAC runs multiple programs dedicated to addressing the root causes of hunger and poverty. Our Disaster Relief program helps people affected by fire, flood and other disaster. Our Thrift Shop provides high quality, low cost items to low income shoppers. Pathways to Work provides job training to those seeking gainful employment. CUMAC's Place of Promise is a permanent supportive housing program. CUMAC administers the Community Food Coalition of over 25 pantries and agencies committed to serving those in need in Passaic County and surrounding areas. CUMAC's seasonal projects provide school supplies, holiday gifts and other items to close to over 1,000 area youth.
CUMAC is located just off of routes 80 and 4 on/off ramps and we offer off street parking. Volunteers received a comprehensive tour and orientation, staff are on hand at all times to guide and answer questions Join our team of 2,500+ volunteers to feed people and change lives and see why our volunteers become life-long friends!

CUMAC is a very special place to me and my family. We volunteer regularly and truly believe in what CUMAC does. They truly feed people and change lives, both the people receiving their assistance and the volunteers who help. The staff and volunteers really care about the people they are helping. I have recommended CUMAC to others who have volunteered and have returned to work again.

CUMAC is an incredible organization dealing with crucial food security issues in a highly urbanized area like Paterson that runs into problems as a "food desert." When it is difficult to get fresh food to families, especially kids, we put our future at risk. NO ONE should go hungry in this world, and CUMAC is helping the greater Paterson-area as the largest food pantry. Every staff member and volunteer is so dedicated to this cause, and it warms my heart to volunteer alongside these caring people. In addition to helping out with food issues, CUMAC also has a thrift shop with very affordable clothing and a tutoring center to assist students with their homework. The fact that these services are open to the public, those who need help, is a great testament to the organization and commitment CUMAC has to serve their community and fight these terrible problems. I will continue volunteering here regularly, and I hope to see even more help in this vital movement-- for a healthier tomorrow!

CUMAC is the most genuine organization I have encountered. The staff is nothing short of amazing, dedicated, and involved in every step the children take from the moment they walk in. CUMAC is a place where children are truly fostered with carefully planned activities for academic and social growth. Time is specifically valued as the children transition from one activity to the next whether it be homework assistance, a light physical group activity, or further assistance in ANY area needed. Each child is individually addressed as well and is never seen without a smile! I am truly proud to be able to be a part of this impressive project.

I volunteered at CUMAC for two reasons. First I am a college student studying to go into Human Services and I am required to volunteer, and also because I enjoy helping others. Upon entering into the CUMAC warehouse I was greeted by Stephanie who was working with all the volunteers. She introduced herself, explained what CUMAC is and what they do. Then Stephanie took my daughter Amanda and I around for a tour of the warehouse. I am very impressed with everything CUMAC is doing. The staff that only consists of a hand full of people made my daughter and I feel very welcomed and appreciated. They were always asking if we were ok and needed anything, it was very kind of them. It is a very amazing placeand the staff is amazing as well. I didn't realize how many terrific things they provide to so many people. I will continue to say a volunteer there and would recommend anyone who wants to volunteer their time to go to CUMAC.
