Keep North Charleston Beautiful

Good environment, everybody helping and the result was great.

Quick to respond with a variety of projects to assist with. I look forward to working with this organization more to keep my community beautiful and to work on my green thumb!

I have been volunteering for Keep North Charleston Beautiful since we moved down here from northern Minnesota a couple of years ago. I felt this was a way to help in the community doing something I love, gardening. This is a great experience and I have learned a lot and enjoy working with the people that run KNCB. There are of variety of things to do all year round, which makes this a great place to volunteer for.

I am a gardening volunteer in the Butterfly Garden at Park Circle. This is a beautiful resource to have in the neighborhood and I feel that I should support it. I have watered, planted flowers, weeded and helped out with office computer work. My gardening tools were provided. Carmen, the Director of the program, is very supportive and appreciative of the volunteers. She makes sure that we have cold drinks and even popsicles. I have also enjoyed meeting and working with Sarah, her assistant. Everything is very well organized and clear. I have worked alone and also on a team, meeting a wide variety of people. I look forward to doing more work with this organization! I usually put in from 4 to 10 hours per week.

We maintain and plant public gardens at different locations. We coordinate with other volunteers and have events to beautify multiple locations around North Charleston. We have programs working with children to introduce them to butterflies and the kinds of flowers butterflies like. We talk to them about litter and how to volunteer cleaning up litter. We have an art project where we have grade school children draw what Clean City Sweep means to them. We select a winner and that art gets picked to be put on a shirt for Clean City Sweep. We have a day of caring event where large groups of volunteers help with projects. We collect empty toner cartridges and have them recycled instead of having them go to the land fill. We work with neighborhoods to help them beautify their area and reward the outstanding areas with gift cards. We have a small group of committee members and a board where truly interested volunteers can serve to make all our programs a success. Come join us and give back!
