Volunteers will manage the Ronald McDonald House space by greeting and assisting families, coordinating laundry room usage, assisting with activities, restocking snacks and coffee, light housekeeping (tidying the space, putting away items left out), etc. Volunteers may run the hospitality cart by handing out age-appropriate activity packs and snacks to patients and families on the inpatient pediatric floor as requested by the site Program Manager. Commitment: Volunteers must be able to commit to a weekly shift of three hours: Shifts are 9am to 12pm, 12pm to 3pm, 3pm to 6pm, and 6pm to 9pm. Qualifications: Volunteers must be 18 years or older Ability to work with a diverse group of families including families going through trauma, a high stress time, and the grieving process Friendly, outgoing, caring, as well as non-judgmental and accepting Excellent understanding of and ability to follow professional and personal boundaries Comfortable volunteering in a medically intensive pediatric service area Good communication skills, ability to communicate with adults and children Prior experience with children, personally or professionally, preferred Must be willing to represent Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond while serving onsite at VCU Health Placement must be approved by staff of both VCU Health and RMHC

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond provides support services for families with critically ill children who are being treated at Richmond-area hospitals. Through a partnership with Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital the Hospitality Cart provides age-appropriate activities and items to families at the Hospital. Volunteers will run the Hospitality Cart through the pediatric units of St. Mary’s hospital. Qualifications and Responsibilities Volunteers must be 18 or older and commit for at 1 year. Volunteers run the cart at least 2 shifts per month. Shifts are approximately 1.5 hours Volunteers will run the Hospitality Cart by handing out age-appropriate activity packs and snacks to families in the pediatric units The cart runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. If volunteers are interested in contributing to the Hospitality Cart program but are under 18 years old or cannot commit long-term, they can purchase items to assemble Activity Packs and donate them to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Activity Packs consist of small toys (i.e. coloring books, crayons, play-doh, etc.) consolidated into clear gallon Ziploc bags. The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond provides support services for families with critically ill children who are being treated at Richmond-area hospitals. Through a partnership with VCU Health and the Child Development Center, The Ronald McDonald House Sibling Center is located in the Children’s Pavilion at VCU. We are looking for dedicated, adult volunteers (18 or older) to engage siblings in the Sibling Center with age-appropriate activities. Volunteers will also be able to run the hospitality cart through waiting areas in the Children’s Pavilion. The Sibling Center operates during daytime hours on Monday through Friday so day time availability during weekdays is required. Impacts and Outcomes: This is a hands-on opportunity that allows volunteers to engage with siblings of patients receiving care at the Children’s Pavilion at VCU. Parents are able to focus on the child receiving treatment while volunteers engage the sibling with age-appropriate activities. Key Responsibilities: Welcome children to the Sibling Center and engage them in age-appropriate activities Activities might include talking, listening, reading, art, games, and comforting/rocking Organize materials, stock supplies for activities, and clean up after activities Run the hospitality cart handing out items to families in the Children's Pavilion Commitment: Volunteers must commit to a weekly 3-hour shift for at least 6 months Shifts occur Monday through Friday from 9am-12pm, 12pm-3pm, or 3pm-5pm Qualifications: Volunteers must have a caring attitude and the ability to work patiently with a variety of ages Volunteers must be comfortable interacting with children ages 3-14 years (most participants will be 3-8 years old) Volunteers must be able to communicate well with children and adults Prior experience with children, personally or professionally, is preferred If you are a student, please visit VCU Health ( https://www.vcuhealth.org/for-your-health/volunteer-services/college-student-volunteer) for more information about student programs.

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) provides support services for families with critically ill children who are being treated at Richmond-area hospitals. RMHC of Richmond is looking for groups of up to 6 volunteers to provide home cooked meals and cookies for families staying at the house, as well as lunches that are delivered to the hospital. All food ingredients must be purchased by the volunteer and prepared in our kitchen. Volunteers may alternatively purchase pre-cooked food from a store and bring it as well. Volunteers will not be serving the food to the families, and are unlikely to interact with families residing at the house.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities provides support services for critically ill children and their families. We are looking for volunteers to purchase items to assemble different program bags (i.e. Grab N Go Bags, Activity Packs, Meal Kits) that help support families at the House and hospital. This is a great opportunity for church or corporate groups looking for a team building experience! Groups may complete these activities at your own location . All items should be brand new and unopened. Items will also need to be packed into clear Ziploc bags. Please use Ziploc bags that are big enough to close without having to roll any coloring or activity books. Detailed information about each assembly bag volunteer opportunity will be shared with you after you've expressed interest. All donations can be dropped off at the Ronald McDonald House Charities any day between 9 am and 9 pm.
