Mission Statement
Advises the Council and the School Board on issues of peace and social justice. Creates citizen awareness and develops educational programs. Total membership is fifteen. Each Councilmember and School Director makes one appointment.
Description
The Commission's broad mandate encompasses foreign and domestic issues, political and civil rights as well as economic, social and cultural.
In addition to preparing resolutions and drafting ordinances, the Commission holds public round-table discussions on issues including restorative justice, immigrant rights and services, and sex-trafficking in Berkeley.
We seek to empower grassroots and marginalized communities to make their voices heard and affect city policy to foster social justice in Berkeley and throughout the country and the world.
