Mission Statement

The mission of SSYP is to actively engage minority youth and young adults in structured, community-based programs in order to prepare and empower them to create healthy and independent lives as adults.

Description

SSYP programs focus on building resiliency and place special emphasis on prevention regarding delinquent and criminal behavior, alcohol and substance abuse, and HIV awareness and prevention. Both youth and adults participate in weekly group sessions conducted by clinically-trained counselors and/or by trained staff to learn about and discuss these issues.

Other program components include: an afterschool drop-in program for youth, ages 10-17 and GED and basic computer classes for adults 18 and older.
