Mission Statement

Hearts and Minds is a nonprofit that addresses the structural roots of extreme global poverty and inequality. We work to effectively help solve this challenge through public education and advocacy for reforms including foreign policy in the United States and other wealthy nations to: - Reform policies that subsidize the wealthy and hurt the poor. - Expand cost effective programs that already help millions of people. Together we’ll change the world, empowering the world’s poorest people and those in the wealthier nations to help make the world more sustainable, just, democratic, peaceful and beautiful now and for all future generations.

Description

Founded in 1996, Hearts and Minds volunteers created an online source of inspiration and information on self help and volunteering. Our site promoted involvement in Poverty Alleviation, Human Rights, Equality, The Environment, Addictions and many other areas.

As a nonprofit, nonpartisan, secular organization, our grassroots approach has allowed our volunteers to inspire, educate, advocate and promote change on initiatives and issues that affect millions of people on the planet.

We now focus on helping end extreme global poverty.

Why volunteer with us?

  • Flexible hours - we’ll work with your schedule!
  • Develop skills, gain experience and find fulfillment in your choice of hands-on activities in our wide range of working groups.
  • Friendly office - you can work directly with our president and other professionals.

Important
For many activities, we require at least a year of experience. Except for those with high-level professional skills, we ask most volunteers to average at least 15 hours a week for at least a month. Some exceptions are possible.

This is another opportunity that reached out to me and an appointment was made for Thursday, May 6 at 4 pm. The person who emailed me was Melissa Triscari, Marketing and Recruitment Coordinator. I called twice to speak with Bill Blackman, Founder & President, but the number went to voicemail both times. Needless to say, this meeting also did not happen.

Hearts and Minds is a great organization because of their passionate and motivated team. Their rewarding volunteer opportunities can be attributed to their president, Bill Blackman, who works to ensure that every volunteer has a valuable experience. His transparency and ability to understand if the organization would be well aligned with the potential volunteer allows him to build a mutually beneficial experience. The office environment really facilitates learning and growth, as you are able to work closely with Bill and other professionals.

A very important cause that would welcome more volunteers to achieve it. A President who is very behind the vision.

This nonprofit was very organized, and they were easy to work with. I did some initial work for them, and was lined up to do more — when my work schedule quite suddenly expanded. I'd been interviewing for two different projects (one freelance, one contract), both came through, and I decided to take on both. That along with another project I was already involved with meant there was no more give in my schedule, not for the next twelve months.

I joined Hearts & Minds last month and I strongly recommended to be a volunteer here! You can work with a range of projects, improve your skills, share your thoughts with all team and contribute for this respectful organization. Great place to volunteer!
